Weekend cookout

It's a Marion Grasby weekend.

In the mood for cooking so I stocked up on ingredients yesterday at the Grocer's as I planned to make Chinese Pan-fried Pork Buns. Always been a dim sum and Chinese food fanatic so I'm challenging myself this weekend.

Somehow, I have always steered clear of yeast or dough and find it intimidating to work with. I guess Marion Grasby always seems to make everything look approachable and easy. Made the dough last night in advance so I didn't have to wait so long this morning. The skill required here is the wrapping of the buns, making each pleat as obvious as possible. Certainly requires more practice in this area.

Pan fry in hot pan till the base is nice and brown, then add in water to cover half the buns, lid on, and cook for a further 12 minutes. The final product was definitely a crowd pleaser. Paired with chilli oil, it's kinda perfection?

Dinner brought another round of excitement for me, as I attempted one of my favourite Taiwanese dishes of all time: braised pork rice or lu rou fan. Succulent pieces of pork belly simmering in spices like star anise, cinnamon and bay leaves, the aroma wafted out onto our driveway! Served with blanched vegetables and a hard boiled egg, it's true comfort food for a Saturday night.

The government announced the lifting of the EMCO yesterday evening. As of today, I guess we're back in FMCO? MCO? Extremely confusing, utterly complicated. With cases still soaring daily, it's only probably going to go even higher. Everyone should continue to stay home, stay safe, get vaccinated and only head out for necessities!

Sending everyone love and light :)
