Twisted Logic

1st July 2006: One of the most memorable days of my life to date.

The day i have been anticipating for the past year or so finally comes. Doors opened at 7pm and but me made our way to Rod Laver Arena at Melbourne Park at 3pm just to queue up. Once the train doors open, my brother and i ran like gazelles (and for a pretty long distance i might add) to the gates. Not surprisingly, there were already people there (some came at 11am) with folding chairs and blankets wrapped around them. We did quite well since we were 2nd in line at the centre gate (there were other gates long the sides as well). We predicted the cntre gate HAD to be opened first. Having 4 whole hours or so to kill, we sat our asses down and just chilled (they were playing Coldplay through the speakers). The weather was freezing and gloomy. But our moods were soooooooooo NOT. After some time we got to talking with the people in front of us and boy did the time pass fast! Edging closer towards 7, we could sit no more and all of us were just standing and talking and shaking off the coldness. We planned on what to do when the gates opened - some would go get wristbands and others would queue at the door first. FINALLY after what seemed like eternity, the security guards came down the stairs and started to unlock the gates. Everyone started to push towards the gates. They unlocked the side ones first...WHATTTTTTTTTTT?? No time to think now so i just squeezed my way through and up the stairs to YES ANOTHER SET OF GLASS DOORS. A whole row of ticket machines were on the other side of the door. And i dunno what the hell was their problem cos AGAIN they opened the doors other than ours. Furiously i squeezed my way through and got to the front of the glass doors! HEH HEH. So when the doors opened, i scanned my ticket hastily and just RAN ONCE MORE like a mad ass woman to the front of Door 5. Everyone was running for their wristbands and i was the only one there so i was the first in line! When the others came back with their wristbands, we swapped and i went to get my wristband. No worries now cos we're already first in line.

Number One rule at concerts: Patience. So wristbands all ready, MORE waiting to come. Another 40 minutes at the door. But with people to talk to and laugh, time passes freaking fast. The security guards got to talking and opened the doors finally. I was the first in line and i ran for my life up and down the stairs and sat my ass down at the CENTRE and FRONT row. That was the exact spot i was queuing up all afternoon for! Best place ever. It doesn't get any better than that. Only then i could relax. Before that, so much stress was involved i could not even chill for a second (that's the problem about Mosh Pits, running pushing queuing waiting - but it's all fun cos what's the point of sitting at a rock concert?) SO more waiting for about 30 minutes then the opening band - Youth Group came on. I have considered myself very lucky in the sense of concerts because i have known all the opening bands so far. Not too bad, just not my style of music. They played for half an hour and we had to wait another 45 minutes for Coldplay to come on! The stress, tension and suspense accumulated was EATING me from the inside. They were such a tease as well. Blowing smoke out of the smoke machine countless times and dimming the lights but not coming on. But when they finally did, i screamed my lungs off.

They opened with Square One and it was AWESOMEEEEEEEE!!!! We were so close right at the barrier, we could practically touch Chris Martin when he jumped in front. Favourites of the night: Square One, Yellow, Talk, Fix You and Don't Panic. Disappointed though they didn't play The Hardest Part and A Message. I had a fantastic time. The set was spectacular, location strategic and what more one of my favourite bands right in front of me. Can't help but say: I love you Chris Martin!!! You're genius!
